The BMW M4 Competition continues to polarise with its bold styling. The oversized kidney grille remains a talking point, but its aggressive stance is complemented by flared nostrils, sculpted bonnet vents, and the quad exhausts that underline its performance intent. Built on a stiff chassis with aluminium suspension components, the car balances weight distribution close to 50:50. Staggered wheels, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear, add stability, while the forged crankshaft and twin turbos highlight BMW’s engineering focus on high performance.

Inside, the M4 Competition blends sportiness with practicality. Large, supportive seats provide excellent cornering stability, though thigh support could be improved. The cabin features BMW’s curved display, offering a modern digital interface. Despite its coupe profile, the car retains usable rear seats and a decent boot, making it more versatile than many rivals. For front passengers entry and exit are relatively easy, and the driving position is low and sporty, ideal for enthusiasts.

BMW equips the M4 Competition with a suite of driver-focused technology. Highlights include a 10-stage traction control system, rear-wheel-drive mode for drift enthusiasts, and an ‘M drift analyser’ that gives you a rating on your performance driving. Adaptive dampers allow drivers to toggle between comfort and sport settings. Safety features include advanced braking systems, stability control, multiple airbags, and driver assistance aids, ensuring that performance doesn’t compromise occupant protection.

Under the hood lies the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged S58 straight-six, producing 530hp and 650Nm of torque. Power delivery is linear, mimicking naturally aspirated engines, while the 8-speed ZF gearbox offers creamy shifts, though it can feel less urgent under hard driving. Acceleration is blistering, with 0–100kph in just 3.5 seconds—quicker than a Porsche 911 Carrera. Autobahn runs showcase its relentless pull past 6,000rpm, while the engine’s honest, unsynthesised soundtrack adds authenticity. At 1,850kg, weight is noticeable, but cleverly managed with a low centre of gravity.

The M4 Competition delivers a claimed mileage of 9.9 kmpl. While efficiency is not its strongest suit, it remains acceptable for a high-performance coupe. Buyers should expect fuel consumption to vary significantly depending on driving style, especially when exploiting its full performance potential.

In city driving, the M4 feels subdued, with light steering and a relaxed demeanour. Ride quality is firm, occasionally brittle over rough surfaces, but adaptive dampers in Comfort mode make long-distance cruising pleasant. Push harder, and the car transforms - steering sharpens, grip levels soar, and agility belies its weight. On twisty Alpine roads or a track, the M4 Competition reveals its true character, attacking corners with precision and balance.

Priced at Rs1.56–1.89 crore (ex-showroom), the M4 Competition sits well above the M340i xDrive, but it justifies its premium with supercar-level pace and sedan-like practicality. It’s a car that can commute comfortably, thrill on weekends, and even carry passengers and luggage. For enthusiasts seeking a blend of everyday usability and exhilarating performance, the M4 Competition stands out as a compelling choice—an all-rounder that delivers both muscle and finesse.
