The new Volvo XC90 will be launched in India in two trims – Momentum and Inscription. While the Momentum trim itself is feature-loaded, the Inscription comes with even more features and fitments to pamper XC90 owners.

The Momentum trim comes with goodies like driver’s seat with memory function, keyless entry, panoramic sunroof, electrically-operated child locks, electrically-operated tailgate, power-folding third row backrest and rain sensors. It also gets a 12V power outlet in the boot, a 12.3-inch screen in the instrument cluster, an audio system with USB and Aux function, LED headlights, park assist and hill descent control.

Over and above this, the Inscription trim boasts of features like a 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, air suspension, Heads-up display, Ventilated front seats and Nappa leather upholstery. It also comes with wood inlays in the cabin, and dual tailpipes and roof rails on the outside.

Mechanically, the XC90 in India will initially come with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, twin-turbo diesel unit that makes 225bhp and 47.9kgm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via the eight-speed automatic gearbox. This Indian car is also likely to come with paddle-shifters. In early 2016 though, Volvo will also launch the XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid. It has a petrol-electric setup – the four-cylinder Drive E engine has been tuned to produce 318bhp and 40.78kgm of torque, while the electric motor is capable of making 80.04bhp and 24.5kgm of torque.

Set to be launched in September 2015, Volvo is expected to price the XC90 competitively, to take on the likes of the Audi Q7 and the BMW X5. And for the pricing, Volvo will offer a spacious and practical seven-seater SUV, which not only gets an exquisitely designed cabin, and has an array of safety features, but also comes with a long list of equipment to provide passengers a full-blown luxury treatment.
