Volvo has introduced hardware and software upgrades for its flagship electric SUV – the EX90. The Swedish carmaker began deliveries of the EX90 to international markets in the first quarter of 2025, and an India launch is expected by the end of this year.
- Updated Volvo EX90 gets 800V electrical architecture
- Volvo claims 250km of range top up in 10min
- New safety kit includes Emergency Stop Assist and automatic e-Call
Volvo EX90 hardware updates
New 800V electrical system enables up to 350kW charging speeds.
Volvo has not changed any design element of the EX90, although, the hardware updates include the company’s new 800-volt electric system, which replaces the 400V technology, to deliver more power, enable faster charging speeds, and quicker acceleration. This system will increase the battery's maximum charging speed from 250kW to 350kW, meaning 250km of range can now be added in just 10 minutes.
Volvo EX90 software updates
New dual Nvidia chips replace the older single unit.
The software upgrades include replacing the Nvidia Xavier chip with two new Nvidia Drive AGX Orin ones, which is claimed to deliver 500 TOPS (trillion operations per second) of computing performance. Anders Bell, chief technology and engineering officer at Volvo Cars says that it enables them “to further enhance the safety and overall performance of the EX90”.
Volvo EX90 new safety kit
Update also said to enhance automatic parking ability.
A company known for prioritising safety has added new features to help you to steer away from pedestrians and cyclists in the dark, new safety alerts for slippery roads and accidents ahead, and improved its automatic parking ability.

Plus, it has integrated automatic e-Call functionality with Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) – designed to automatically bring the car to a controlled stop in case of an accident or if the driver becomes unconscious – and connect the car to an emergency call centre linked to Volvo Support. Currently, in case of emergencies, the Volvo On Call service centre can be alerted manually by pressing the SOS button.
Volvo EX90 India plans
EX90 will follow recently launched EX30 to the market.
The company is halfway toward completing its goal to double its electric portfolio in India this year, as it has just launched the all-new entry-level EV, the EX30 SUV. It joins the existing EV line-up that includes the EX40 SUV and its coupe version – the EC40.
The EX90 was unveiled in 2022 as the brand’s flagship 7-seater EV, effectively serving as the electric equivalent of the existing top-end SUV – the XC90, which is the brand’s flagship ICE SUV on sale in India. When it launches, prices for the EX90 will likely be higher than the XC90, which is currently priced between Rs 96 lakh and Rs 1.05 crore.
