Toyota has released a first set of images of the new Crown concept sedan that will make its official debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The production-spec model will be the fifteenth generation of the popular model since its launch way back in 1955.

Expected to arrive in Japan next year and only meant for that market, the Crown concept provides hints of the next-generation Japan-focused model and comes with Internet of Things connectivity that includes vehicle-to-vehicle communications and advanced safety systems.

The concept is based on the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform as the new Camry, Prius and the Tj Cruiser concept SUV. This suggests that a degree of electrification will be offered as well.

Toyota has also been testing the sedan at the Nurburgring fuelling speculation that it will offer a driver-focused package.
