The SsangYong Rexton-based premium pick-up truck, the Rexton Sports, is expected to launch in the South Korean market in early 2018. Ahead of its launch, the car has been spotted in South Korea and spy shots provide nearly everything we need to know about its exterior layout and interior profile.

On the outside, the Rexton Sports looks slightly humble, with a body-coloured, less prominent front grille that has a single chrome slat, unlike the black colour grille seen on the 2017 Rexton. The fog lamps too are traditional halogen units, with bigger enclosures instead of LED fog lamps. Elements like a chrome bumper garnish and black skid plates on the approach angle are also missing on the pick-up version.

The Sports, being a pick-up, looks quite different from the side and rear for obvious reasons, with the major one being the unladen rear end. On the sides it gets five-spoke alloy wheels, while the rear gets wraparound, vertical tail-lamps, horizontal light reflectors and a Sports badge imposed on the tailgate. The interior of the Sports variant is quite identical to the Rexton, but lack of wood trim and high-gloss black treatment on the centre console takes away some of the premium appeal.

The Rexton Sports gets two versions in body lengths of 5m and 5.4m, with the latter likely to get an elongated load box that is about 400mm longer. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre e-XDi220 LET diesel engine that produces 184hp and 420Nm of torque, and get a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission as an option, along with 4WD.
