Skoda has just taken the wraps off its latest future SUV concept, called the Vision X. This new model will be a hybrid small SUV which will see a production debut next year.

The Vision X is described as an 'urban SUV', hinting at the model’s on-road focus. It will enter production as the brand's third SUV line, sitting underneath the Karoq and Kodiaq. Skoda confirmed that the model will use the styling theme of the Karoq and Kodiaq and take it to another market segment, so the production model is not likely to stray far from the Vision X's look.

The 20in alloys are likely to be made smaller, while the minimalist interior will be replaced by a more conventional dash, dominated by a central infotainment screen – a much smaller, built-in unit than the one on the concept.

Rather than being based on the latest Skoda Fabia which is sold oversesas, the Vision X will be built on the MQB A0 platform. The names Amiq and Anuq have both been trademarked in the past, but would buck Skoda's new convention for production SUV names beginning with 'K' and ending in 'q'.

Engines are likely to be shared with the smaller cars in the Skoda range, so a mix of 1.0 and 1.5 TSI engines and the 1.6 TDI are to be expected. The Vision X's hybrid powertrain has yet to be used in any production models, however.

There is no news of this SUV coming to our shores anytime soon. However, the larger Skoda Karoq will come to India in the near future.
