Mitsubishi has silently launched a new variant of the Pajero Sport SUV called the Select Plus. Priced at Rs 30.53 lakh for the 4x2 automatic model and Rs 30.95 lakh for the 4x4 manual derivative (both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai), the Select Plus features cosmetic changes over the standard Pajero Sport along with additional equipment.

Available only in dual-tone colours, the Select Plus gets a blacked-out roof and pillars but, unlike the standard dual-tone model,  doesn't get contrast-finished rear fender. The Select Plus additionally features black-finished body mouldings such as the wheel-arch extensions, door mouldings and a guard on the front bumper. The alloy wheels and front grille too get a blacked-out finish. Additional cosmetic changes include chrome mouldings on the door handles and on the wing mirror housings.

In terms of equipment, the Select Plus gets the addition of cruise control, LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) on the outer edge of the fog lamp housings, electric folding wing mirrors, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps (the standard Pajero Sport gets halogen projectors), a chiller box and DVD players mounted in the front seat headrests.

Under the hood, the Select Plus is powered by the same 178hp, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine as the regular Pajero Sport. In the manual gearbox-equipped four-wheel-drive model, the unit develops 400Nm of torque, while in the two-wheel-drive automatic, it develops 350Nm.

The Pajero Sport has been on sale in the country for a while now, with many new and better rivals now on sale in the market. The new variant is a move by the automaker to help revive sales for the model in light of the stiff competition from the likes of the new Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
