Mercedes has launched new limited-run special editions of its two hatchbacks, the A-class and the B-class with prices starting at Rs 27.31 lakh and Rs 29.34 lakh respectively for the petrol model. The diesel models are priced at Rs 28.32 lakh and Rs 30.35 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom, Pune).

On the outside, both models feature blacked out trim bits along with contrast colour wing mirror housings and new 17-inch alloy wheels that also come finished in black, along with ‘Night Edition’ badging.

Inside the cabin, both cars get a Command infotainment system with the larger eight-inch display along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The cars also get sports seats finished in part Artico leather-part fabric sports seats.

Under the hood, both cars are offered with the choice of either a 122hp 1.6-litre petrol or a more powerful 136hp 2.1-litre diesel engine. Both motors are paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard.

Mercedes has said that only 100 units each of the A-class and B-class Nigh Edition models will be available.

With the new limited run models, Mercedes is looking to attract young buyers by providing their car with minor sporting touches with blacked out exterior trim, along with improved in-car connectivity via the larger infotainment display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Mercedes A-class rivals the like of the Volvo V40 and the BMW 1-series. The larger B-class though has no direct rivals.
