Mercedes-Benz debuted its all-electric GLC SUV at the Munich motor show in Germany. Called the Mercedes GLC with EQ Technology, the new electric vehicle will effectively serve as a successor to the EQC SUV, and will be sold alongside the combustion-powered GLC. Talking about rivals, the GLC EV will directly go against the new BMW iX3.

  1. GLC EV is based on the MB.EA platform
  2. 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen is the largest screen in a Mercedes car yet
  3. Mercedes claims a drag coefficient of 0.26
  4. Arriving in India in 2027

The GLC EV sits on Mercedes' new 800V-compatible MB.EA platform. In markets like the US, it'll launch in two versions: the rear-wheel-drive GLC 300+ and the all-wheel-drive GLC 400 4Matic. The GLC 300+ uses a single motor producing 374hp, while the dual-motor GLC 400 makes 490hp; top speed is 210kph. Each version has a 94kWh NMC battery and supports DC fast charging of up to 330kW, and thanks to an integrated DC converter, it works with both 800V and 400V chargers.

Charging from 10-80 percent takes about 24 minutes, or you can add up to 303km in just 10 minutes. Talking about the range, the GLC 400 AWD EV delivers a single charge range of up to 713km on the WLTP cycle.

The most noticeable exterior feature of the GLC EV is its massive grille, with 942 backlit dots flanking the illuminated three-pointed star in the centre. The headlights feature star-shaped running lights, while the tail-light bar uses tiny star-shaped LEDs.

A subtle roof spoiler helps with aerodynamics while balancing the sloping roofline. Mercedes claims a drag coefficient of 0.26 with the electric GLC. As for the wheel size, 20-inch is standard, but one can opt for 21-inch alloy wheels as well. Tail-light units resemble those of the electric CLA.

39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, physical buttons on the steering wheel

The highlight inside is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen – the largest display Mercedes has ever put in a car. It stretches across the whole dashboard, combining the driver’s display, touchscreen and passenger screen into one. The infotainment system runs on a newer version of MBUX, with cleaner menus and even a built-in AI assistant. Mercedes has also brought back physical buttons and knobs for the steering wheel and centre console, ditching the touch-sensitive controls usually seen in electric vehicles.
