Mercedes S-Class recall in India

As per SIAM’s vehicle recall database, Mercedes-Benz India has issued a recall for select units of the seventh-generation of the S-Class' Maybach version. The recall affects the W223 line-up that's been on sale since 2021. The recall was prompted by the software in the luxury sedan’s engine control unit (ECU) not meeting current specifications.

  1. Mercedes S-Class recalled due to ECU software issue
  2. This marks the third India recall for the S-Class in 2024

The ECU software issue could lead to a rise in exhaust temperatures, risking damage to components such as the engine wiring harness and catalytic converter. This could potentially cause unexpected propulsion loss and increase the risk of fire, noted the recall listing.

A total of 386 units of the Maybach S-Class manufactured between April 29, 2021 and January 27, 2024, and one S-Class manufactured on April 21, 2021 have been affected. As is usually the case, Mercedes is expected to contact the owners of the affected units to schedule an appointment and fix the issue free of cost.

The S-Class range starts with the S350d at Rs 1.77 crore (ex-showroom, India), going up to Rs 3.44 crore for the top-spec S 680 4Matic, which was recently updated with new features.
