Mercedes-Benz S-Class project manager Martin Hulder has confirmed that the company will be launching the cabriolet version of the S-Class internationally by the end of the year.

The car will make use a folding soft-top, and will carry many styling cues from the coupe. The S-class cabriolet, however, is expected to feature a different boot-lid with minor styling changes, to accommodate the roof-folding mechanism.

As with the coupe, the cabriolet will feature a heavily raked windscreen and a large rear quaterlight window, which indicates that the car will feature a generous rear cabin for a soft-top.

The S-Class cabriolet will also get a roomier and higher quality cabin compared to its E-Class cabriolet sibling, and will appeal to owners who might want space to seat two adults in the back seat, in open top luxury.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class cabriolet will open up a fresh niche for large luxury 2+2 soft-tops, occupying a territory close to the Bentley Continental GTC.
