Following the launch of the Mercedes-AMG S 63 Coupé, the German automaker has now announced that it will be introducing its sister car, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 sedan, on August 11, 2015.
Compared to the standard S-class sedan, the S 63 sedan is about 100kg lighter, employing aluminium and carbon-fibre components to reduce overall weight. The AMG sedan looks almost identical to the standard S-class except for the more aggressive body kit with chrome inserts, lowered suspension, AMG wheels and quad rear exhausts.
Inside, the styling theme emulates the exterior with the luxury of the standard S-class combined with the sporting elements of an Mercedes-AMG. As with the standard S-class, the AMG S 63 gets leather upholstery, however, rather than beige, the leather is black to go with the sportier credentials. The wood-trim inserts are replaced by carbon fibre in the cabin.
Under the hood is a hand-built 5.5-litre twin-turbo AMG V8 developing 577bhp and 91.77kgm of torque mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The company claims that the AMG S 63 sedan can sprint from 0-100kph in 4.4 seconds Internationally, the AMG S 63 is offered with a choice of rear-wheel drive or the company’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system with Magic Body Control or Airmatic suspension system respectively.
For India, Mercedes is expected to launch the rear-wheel drive model, therefore expect the Magic Body Control suspension system from the AMG S 63 Coupé to feature on the sedan as well. The system uses a stereo camera to scan the road ahead for any undulations, and automatically adjusts the suspension to keep the ride as smooth as possible.
Expect the AMG S 63 sedan to be priced in the same bracket as the S 63 Coupé, with the model being brought to India through the CBU route.
