Mercedes will unveil two special editions of the AMG G-class before the current-gen model sees a replacement. The special edition G-class SUVs will be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor show 2017 and will be called the G63 and the G65 Exclusive Edition.

The new G-class models arrive just five months before a more contemporary all-new G-class – featuring an all-aluminium body, wider tracks, significant weight reduction and a newly styled interior – makes its expected public premiere at the 2018 Detroit motor show. It is planned to be sold alongside an updated version of the original G-class.

New to the G63 and G65 Exclusive Edition is a unique grey paint finish, a stainless running kick plate integrated within the lower edge of the front bumper, AMG racing stripes along the lower section of the doors, body protection elements in a dark aluminium look and a spare wheel cover painted in the vehicle colour.

The G63 Exclusive Edition receives 21-inch matt-black alloy wheels shod with 295/40 profile tyres. The G65 uses different-looking alloys, with inserts in a carbon-fibre look, but in the same wheel and tyre size.

Inside, the two limited-volume models sport an instrument panel in two-tone leather, as well as sport seats with similarly styled two-tone leather upholstery featuring diamond-pattern quilting and integrated air conditioning. Buyers can choose between six colour combinations for the leather, along with either carbon-fibre or black piano lacquer wood trim elements.

Both the G63 and G65 Exclusive Edition retain the same power and output as their standard siblings. The G63 is powered by a 5.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 producing 571hp and 760Nm of torque, while the G65 runs a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 with 630hp and 1000Nm. There is no news of an India launch for the special edition AMG G-class models.
