Maruti has started preparations to launch the all-new Ignis in the country on January 13, 2017. The first in a line of Maruti cars set to appear on Indian shores next year, the new Ignis will become the third model to retail via Maruti’s premium Nexa dealership chain.

At launch, the Ignis is set to be offered with Maruti’s tried and tested 1.2-litre petrol engine. While, in international markets, the car has been offered as either a petrol or petrol hybrid, in India, the Ignis is expected to receive Maruti’s popular 1.3-litre diesel engine. Both engines will be offered with a manual gearbox as standard though an AMT gearbox is also expected to be offered.

Interestingly, unlike the recent Marutis that get most of their interior bits from a common parts bin, the Ignis will feature a new, premium interior with new switchgear, steering wheel, instrument cluster and even a Mercedes-Benz-like floating infotainment screen. Expect equipment on offer to include projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps and SmartPlay infotainmanet system. Maruti is also expected to offer a great degree of cusomisable bits inside and out.

The Ignis will rival the Mahindra KUV100 and will become the entry car for Nexa. Expect the pricing to be in the range of Rs 5.5–8 lakh.
