Mahindra is well-known as India's foremost UV maker, and the home-grown brand has now achieved the five million (50 lakh) production milestone. This was achieved at Mahindra's Kandivali plant in Mumbai, with the fabled off-roader Thar being rolled out as the milestone-marking car.
Mahindra had produced four million (40 lakh) vehicles by 2012, and the last two years have seen a total production of one million (10 lakh) units. This milestone is the result of combined vehicle production from the company’s six manufacturing plants at Chakan, Nasik, Haridwar, Zaheerabad, Kandivali and its engine production unit in Igatpuri.
The momentous event saw the presence of Anand Mahindra, chairman, Mahindra Group, and Pawan Goenka, executive director, M&M, along with workers, union representatives and other officials.
