Lexus has revealed the GS F. Set to make its global debut at the Detroit motor show next week, the GS F is a performance-oriented version of the GS sedan. It looks to rival the likes of the BMW M5, Mercedes E63 AMG and the Jaguar XFR-S. Key difference from these rivals is that the Lexus uses a conventional naturally-aspirated engine rather than a forced induction one.

The Lexus GS F is powered by a 467bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine. Peak power is generated at 7100rpm, and peak torque comes in between 4800 and 5600rpm. All this power is driven to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and comes with Lexus’s Torque Vectoring Differential as standard. It includes three modes  – Standard, Slalom (which improves steering response and agility) and Track.

Lexus says the GS F has had its chassis stiffened over that of the standard GS on which it is based. The chassis will feature ‘structural reinforcements and an exclusive suspension package [strut and multi-link] designed to optimise the car’s handling capabilities and ride quality’. The GS F weighs in at 1830kg.

In terms of bodywork, the GS F retains the silhouette of the standard GS, but gets aggressive aerodynamic enhancements like new front and rear bumpers, flared wheel arches, side skirts, a rear diffuser and a subtle lip spoiler, and quad exhausts at the rear.
