Lamborghini is set to introduce a facelifted version of its Aventador coupé and roadster models as part of their mid-life refresh.

The updated Aventador is expected to feature minor changes to its front end. However, it is at the rear that the changes will be more significant, as the car is set to receive a new rear wing and a more complex aerodynamic layout. This suggests the exterior changes will help the 2017 model to generate more downforce than before.

Lamborghini hasn’t released any information regarding the modifications to the car’s powertrain as of yet. However, our sister publication Autocar UK’s sources think the Aventador’s naturally aspirated V12 engine could receive a slight hike in power. The current model’s 6.5-litre unit produces 699hp, but the 750hp output of the super-hot Aventador SV model shows there’s plenty of potential to up the horsepower of the regular model.

The 2017 Aventador could also possibly be Lamborghini’s last series-production unassisted V12 model, as the carmaker looks to adopt hybrid technology to increase the efficiency of its range.

The Aventador’s successor is expected to arrive in international markets towards the end of 2020 or at the very start of 2021, and Autocar UK’s sources believe that its V12 powertrain will incorporate some sort of efficiency-boosting technology. However, with Lamborghini also emphasising that it will stick with naturally aspirated V12s for as long as possible, the change won’t likely come until it is absolutely necessary.
