JLR is said to be considering developing a limited-edition, hand-crafted Range Rover to take on the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Speaking to our sister publication, Autocar UK at the launch of the current range-topping Range Rover SVAutobiography, Paul Newsome, Director of JLR’s Special Vehicle Operations division, said, "I can see something that would sit above the existing Range Rover model. It would have to have a unique style and different looks [to the current Range Rover]".

He also added that he thought that this segment focussed more on hand-craftsmanship rather than technology, meaning that the new Range Rover could be at least partially hand-crafted.

"You could imagine a car with aluminium [body] panels which would be hand-finished and hand-matched. Something that potential buyers could watch being made," he said.

It is understood that the new Range Rover will use the V8 petrol and diesel mills from the current top-trim models along with the possibility of using a hybrid powertrain. Newsome, however, remained tight-lipped on the progress of the SVO division in developing the new Range Rover model and on its possible debut.
