Maruti has just launched the Ignis, under the Nexa distribution network at an introductory price (ex-showroom, Delhi) of Rs 4.59 lakh for the petrol and Rs 6.39 lakh for the diesel. This makes it Nexa’s most affordable car.

Prices of its nearest rival, the Mahindra KUV100, start at Rs 4.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Ignis retails through Maruti’s Nexa dealership chain and pricewise overlaps with the Swift. The base Ignis is priced lower than the base Swift, as you go up the range the Ignis gets more pricey with the top variant costing a considerable Rs. 32,000 more on the petrol and Rs. 36,000 on the diesel.

The Ignis is available in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Safety features of Dual airbags, ABS, EBD and ISOFIX child seat anchor points are standard across the range while features such as LED projector headlamps with daytime-running lights, puddle lamps, automatic climate control, 15-inch alloy wheels and Maruti’s SmartPlay infotainment system with navigation, voice recognition, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link connectivity make their way to the top variant (Alpha) of the Ignis.

The Ignis is powered by the same set of engine that does duty on the Baleno. The 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol unit produces 83hp and 113Nm, and the 1.3-litre four-cylinder diesel motor produces 75hp and 190Nm. Gearbox options include a five-speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT) on both the petrol and diesel. The AMT, however, will be available only on the mid-spec Delta and Zeta variants. The base Sigma trim is offered as a petrol-manual only, whereas the top-spec Alpha, is available with both engine options and gets only the manual transmission. The ARAI fuel efficiency figures are 20.89kpl and 26.8kpl for the petrol and diesel, respectively.

The Ignis is available in six colour schemes – Pearl Arctic White, Uptown Red, Silky Silver, Tinsel Blue, Glistening Grey and Urban Blue. Maruti are targeting the younger buyers with the Ignis and towards that are also offering dual-tone body coloured options as well as some customisable options for the exterior and interior.
