Hyundai will launch the i20 Active on March 17, 2015. It is based on the Elite i20, and is the “Cross” version of the standard car. Like the usual trend seen in other cross-hatches, the i20 Active also gets a slightly altered look. Apart from this, one of the major differences compared to the Elite i20 is that the i20 Active rides higher than the standard car. While the Elite i20 gets a 170mm ground clearance, the i20 Active gets 190mm .

The i20 Active’s headlights get projector units as well as LED daytime running lamps. The front and rear bumpers are all-new and come with round “cornering lamps”. The theme is carried on to the sides with additional body cladding, new-look 16-inch alloy wheels, and the slightly higher ground clearance. Moving on to the rear, the bumper gets thick cladding with a brushed aluminum faux skid plate and round reflectors. Also on offer will be a cooled glove box, faux aluminum sport pedals, a different gear-knob (compared to the standard car) and dual-tone seats.

The Hyundai i20 Active will come with a 1.4-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.2-litre petrol motor comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. However, the engines could see a slight bump up in power for both, diesel and petrol models. An automatic variant is on the cards as well, but that will come later in the life of the car. The Hyundai i20 Active will compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross.

Expect it to cost Rs 50,000-75,000 more, in comparison to the regular i20.
