Following the recent expiry of reduced excise duty in India, carmakers have an added worry alongside the rising input costs. Unfortunately, this also means customers will have to shell out more money for cars, since prices will inevitably be hiked. Honda has announced price hikes on models across its portfolio in India, barring the Mobilio MPV; the increase is by upto Rs 60,000.

Prices for the Honda Brio have been hiked in the range of Rs 15,000-18,000; it is now priced from Rs 4.21-6.30 lakh. The Amaze compact sedan has been made dearer by Rs 19,000 to Rs 26,000 and is now available for Rs 5.18-7.78 lakh. Honda's biggest seller, the City, is pricier by around Rs 33,000-48,000; it now costs between Rs 7.53-11.53 lakh. Prices for the flagship CR-V have been upped by Rs 60,000, and it is now available for Rs 20.85-24.96 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).

The price hikes are not limited to Honda. Potential car buyers can expect almost every carmaker to soon announce a hike in prices, citing increased excise duty and rising input costs as reasons.
