2017 Bentley Continental Supersports side profile

The current-gen Bentley Continental GT is set to get the hardcore Supersports treatment, like its predecessor did back in 2017. Our sister publication, Autocar UK, reports that the new Bentley Continental Supersports will make its debut soon and be the first of a new line-up of ‘extreme’ models.

  1. Continental Supersports will not use hybrid powertrain
  2. Lightweighting will help improve performance
  3. It will be rear-wheel drive only

New Bentley Continental Supersports engine and performance

4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine is expected to produce around 640hp

Unlike the current Continental GT, which uses a twin-turbo V8 engine along with a gearbox-mounted electric motor, the new Supersports is reportedly going to be powered by just the V8 engine, tuned to produce around 640hp. While this figure is less than the Continental GT High Performance (680hp and 930Nm) and GT Speed Ultra Performance (782hp and 1,000Nm) variants, Bentley plans to employ extreme lightweighting measures so that the Supersports will be able to serve as a “pure-performance” model.

Removal of hybrid and AWD systems will save weight

Autocar UK reports that the Continental Supersports will weigh around 2 tonnes, making it about 450kg less than the GT Speed and also the lightest Bentley in decades. A 0-100kph time of 3.1 seconds, equal to the GT Speed, is claimed. While the removal of the hybrid and AWD systems will result in the biggest weight savings, other lightweighting measures expected are carbon-fibre bodywork like the roof, sports seats in front, removal of rear seats, Akrapovic exhausts, custom lightweight wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes.

The exterior of the hardcore Continental Supersports will mirror its performance intentions, with more aggressive bodywork, including a large spoiler seen in spy shots of the model on test. While a debut date has yet to be confirmed, the new Bentley Continental Supersports is expected to be revealed before the end of 2025.
