In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Green Mumbai Drive 2021, organised by Autocar India and Adani Electricity, will witness over 30 electric cars coming together at one venue on October 2. The rally will be flagged off by Aaditya Thackeray, Maharashtra's Minister for Tourism, Environment and Protocol, followed by the participants driving in a convoy over a 110km route, covering the Green Lungs of Mumbai.

  • First of its kind, electric car rally to be held in Mumbai on October 2
  • To see participation from every electric car model on sale in India
  • Aims to create awareness about motoring with zero tail pipe emissions

The efforts are aimed at capturing a vision of a future devoid of vehicular emissions. Green Mumbai Drive 2021 is an affirmation to the Maharashtra government’s EV Policy to ensure that electric vehicles contribute at least 10 percent of all new vehicle registrations by 2025.

Commenting about the rally, Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd's MD and CEO Kandarp Patel said, “Close to 30 percent of our carbon footprint comes from transportation, and as Mumbai’s largest electric utility, Adani Electricity aims to lead the way in powering Mumbai’s transition to electric mobility with a goal to drastically reduce carbon emissions.” Adani Electricity owns and operates a fleet of 15 EVs, with a commitment to only procuring EVs for all future requirements, wherever feasible.

“Carbon dioxide is the root cause of global warming, and the only way to reduce it is by getting rid of hydrocarbons, which internal combustion engines run on,” said Hormazd Sorabjee, editor and publisher, Autocar India. “Electric vehicles are gaining ground across the world because there are targets to reduce carbon dioxide and the best way to do it is to look at alternative sources of energy. The goal of Green Mumbai Drive 2021 is to raise awareness about the role electric vehicles can play in reducing CO2 emissions and combating climate change.”
