Fiat has debuted two new body styles based on the Tipo sedan at the Geneva motor show. The new models in question – a hatchback and an estate – share much of their styling with the sedan sibling but with completely different rear ends; the sedan-style boot makes way for a tailgate with new design tail-lamps.
The Tipo’s engine range comprises two diesel and three petrol engines. The diesels include a 94bhp and 20.46kgm 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre unit that makes 118bhp and 32.63kgm. The petrol engines include a 1.4-litre unit producing 94bhp and 12.72kgm and a 1.6-litre 108bhp engine with 20.74kgm. There is also a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine that produces 118bhp and 21.01kgm of torque.
Fiat has posted boot space of 420 litres for the hatchback, and 520 litres for the estate, but with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats of the estate folded down, maximum storage capacity will sharply rise. Fiat also claims that practicality is boosted by a low loading lip.
The Tipo hatchback measures in at 4370mm long, 1790mm wide and 1500mm tall. The Tipo estate, by comparison, is 200mm longer than the hatchback, at 4570mm and gets a third row of windows behind the passenger door.
The introduction of the hatchback and estate will allow the Tipo family to cater to three segments in international markets.
