Fiat has released a teaser video of its new Argo hatchback-based sedan, the Cronos. Set to launch in South American markets like Brazil before the end of the year, the Cronos will compete with the likes of the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and the yet-to-be-launched Polo-based VW Virtus.

The short video completely reveals the sedan’s side profile and provides hints of the front as well. Until the B-pillar, the Cronos shares most of its design with the Argo, including the grille and headlamps, though the sedan features a longer and differently designed rear door and roof. At the rear, the tail-lamp design looks to be inspired by smaller Audi sedans.

The interiors have not yet been revealed but it is expected to share all the important bits with its hatchback sibling.

In terms of engine options for the Brazilian market, the Cronos will miss out on the Argo’s smaller 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine. The sedan will come with a 109hp, 1.3-litre petrol and a 139hp, 1.8-litre flex-fuel engine, with the former being mated to a five-speed manual and the latter also getting the option of a six-speed automatic transmission.

There is no news on whether Fiat will bring the Cronos sedan to India to replace the aging Linea, which rivals the likes of the Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
