The Cross looks far more rugged than its Go+ sibling.

The Cross comes with ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control (called VDC) and traction control.

CVT automatic option is a welcome addition.

After numerous leaks, Datsun has finally unveiled its new crossover, the Go+ based Cross, for the Indonesian market. While the name for the seven-seater name was thought to be the Go Cross, the official unveil confirms the name as Cross.

This reveal has confirmed details we had from the leak, including the all-round body cladding, halogen projector headlamps, front fog lamps, LED position lamps, faux skid plates on the front bumper, sides and rear, a roof spoiler, a rear wiper and roof rails (in either black or silver) that can carry up to 30kg loads. The new 15-inch alloy wheels shod with 175/65 R15 tyres, chrome-finished tailpipe and honeycomb grille with chrome bordering round up the exterior changes.

Compared to the Go and the Go+, the seven-seat crossover’s interior isn’t all that different, featuring the same all-black theme, the same instrument cluster (though there’s a new tachometer now) and steering wheel. However, the latter gets silver touches, which can also be seen on the centre console. The 6.75-inch touchscreen unit, with AM/FM, MP3, USB, Aux-in, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity continues, as does the two-speaker set-up.

The Cross’ position as Datsun’s most premium product is cemented by the level of kit on offer, from the automatic headlamps with a follow-me-home function, front and rear power windows, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors and a power outlet, to the dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control (called VDC), traction control, rear parking sensors and seatbelts that come as standard for all three rows.

Mechanically, the engine is the same one found on the Go+. Making 68hp and 104Nm of torque, the 1.2-litre three-pot motor now comes with the option of a CVT automatic, along with the five-speed manual gearbox that is standard. Stopping power comes from discs in the front and drums at the rear.

There is no word on whether Datsun will bring the Cross to India. If the Japanese brand does introduce it in the country, the Cross will have a range of rivals depending on its price tag, from cross-hatches like the Maruti CelerioX and Mahindra KUV100 NXT, to compact SUVs like the  Maruti Vitara BrezzaTata’s Nexon and the refreshed Ford EcoSport.
