Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has launched a sub-four-meter Bolero, called the Bolero Power+, at a price of Rs 6.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Navi Mumbai), making it cheaper than the regular Bolero SLE (Rs 7.59 lakh) by Rs 1 lakh.

The Bolero Power+ gets a new 1,493cc, 1.5-litre engine dubbed mHawkD70, which is a three-cylinder unit that delivers 71hp at 3,600rpm and 195Nm of torque at 1,400-2,200rpm, and is mated to a five-speed manual. The standard Bolero with its 2.5-litre on the other hand engine delivers 63hp and 195Nm of torque. The new unit is also slightly more fuel efficient at 16.5kpl compared to the Bolero 2.5’s 15.96kpl.

In terms of dimensions, the Bolero Power+ is 3,995mm long, 1,745mm wide and 1,880mm high. This means while the width and height is the same as the standard Bolero, it is slightly shorter by 112mm. The interior dimensions of the standard model has also been retained which means there has been no change in cabin space. The Bolero Power+ is available in a seven-seat configuration with the third row getting opposite facing jump seats.

Mahindra has cleverly altered the front and rear bumpers of the Bolero to shave off length. The substantial reduction in price has been achieved thanks to excise tax benefits offered to vehicles with length under four meters and with engine displacement below 1.5 litres.

Three trim levels are on offer on the Bolero Power+, with the top-spec ZLX getting tech like Mahindra’s Micro Hybrid system, an audio player with Bluetooth/USB/AUX/CD, body-coloured wing mirrors, rear washer and wiper to name a few. Mahindra is offering a three-year/ one-lakh km warranty on the Bolero Power+.

The Bolero which has been on sale for a long time has been popular in the rural markets. But of late, the carmaker has seen a decline in sales. With the cheaper Bolero Power+, Mahindra aims to regain its lost market share but the segment is now very cluttered with Mahindra itself launching four sub-four-metre SUVs within one year.
