BMW promised a big show at the Auto Expo, and a big show it delivered. In addition to all the expected launches, like those of the M5 and 6-series GT, the German carmaker also threw in a few surprise additions to its line-up at the motor show; one of which is the X6 35i M Sport that was launched at Rs 94.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The pricing makes the petrol X6 Rs 32 lakh cheaper than the similarly specced diesel 40d M Sport.

The petrol engine under the X6 35i’s hood is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged unit that makes 306hp at 5,800-6,400rpm and 400Nm of torque at 1,200-5,000rpm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic. The diesel 40d M Sport is powered by a 313hp, 3.0-litre straight-six unit.

In terms of kit, the petrol M Sport is identical to the diesel version and gets a 10.25-inch display for the instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with iDrive connectivity, two 9.2-inch entertainment screens at the rear that are controllable via remote and a 600W, 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system. The exteriors and interiors are unchanged from the diesel model too, with Dakota leather and Nappa leather upholstery on offer.

At this new price point, the petrol X6 is closer to its key rival, the 367hp, Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 Coupe, on price. The GLE 43 Coupe costs Rs 86.40 lakh.
