Audi is planning to launch a long-wheelbase Audi A8, longer and wider than its premium class rivals. The saloon will be 130mm longer than the standard A8, taking it to an overall length of 5267mm.
The lengthening is all within the wheelbase, taking it to 3122mm. The width is unchanged at 1949mm, while the height rises 2mm to 1462mm. The extra length is all used for the benefit of rear-seat passengers, and power adjustable, heated and cooled rear seats are an option. The rear doors are also longer, to ease access.
Other options include a console that stretches from the centre tunnel to the rear shelf, which can be specified with items including a folding table or fridge, and a panoramic glass roof.
The model pictured is the 12-cylinder range-topper, which will be unveiled at the Bejing motor show. It has slightly different styling, including different radiator grille and exhaust designs.
Given the buyer tastes in this segment, Audi India will only launch the long-wheelbase version. No prices have been released yet. Expect the car to enter our market by the end of this year.
