Following the recent facelift launches for the Polo hatchback and Vento midsize sedan – which also saw the addition of a GT Line trim for both – Volkswagen is set to introduce the GT Line trim on the Ameo compact sedan as well. The Volkswagen Ameo GT Line has appeared on the brand’s India website, with the diesel version priced at Rs 9.99 lakh. Dealer sources have confirmed that the Ameo GT Line will be available with the 110hp, 1.5-litre diesel-automatic and the 76hp, 1.0-litre petrol-manual.
Unlike the Polo and Vento, the standard Volkswagen Ameo has not yet been given the new front grille and bumper design. On the other hand, the Ameo GT Line gets the same cosmetic changes seen on the Vento GT Line sans the facelift. In essence, the sportier-looking version of the Ameo gets the new Sunset Red paint shade, a black roof, ORVM covers and boot lid spoiler, chrome-finished door handles, a GT Line badge on the front fender, and GT Line decals on the doors.
All other features and safety kit appear to be identical to the top-spec Ameo Highline Plus variant – the diesel Ameo GT and Ameo Highline Plus are also priced at an identical Rs 9.99 lakh. As such, the petrol Ameo GT Line is expected to cost the same Rs 7.99 lakh as the petrol Ameo Highline Plus.
Whether this new variant will help Volkswagen retail more units of the compact sedan – which rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze – during the upcoming festive season remains to be seen.
