Following the two much-anticipated launches in June – the Tata Harrier EV and Mercedes-AMG GT – at either end of the market, this month will see the launch of two new electric MPVs and a German entry-level luxury sedan. The Carens Clavis will be joined by its electric sibling, the luxurious Carnival will see an all-new electric rival, and the BMW 2 Series is making a comeback with a major update. Read on to find out more about all the new cars launching this July.

Kia Carens Clavis EV

July 15

The Carens Clavis EV has been spied on test on several occasions.

Hot on the heels of the ICE-powered Carens Clavis, which was just launched in May, Kia will unveil and announce prices for the Carens Clavis EV on July 15. The electric MPV will be a direct ICE-to-EV conversion and, as such, is expected to be quite similar to the petrol- and diesel-powered Carens Clavis in terms of design, interior and equipment. Under the skin, however, it is expected to share its battery and electric motor with the Hyundai Creta Electric. Specific details are still awaited, but we expect two battery pack options – 42kWh and 51.4kWh – and a front axle-mounted electric motor. The Carens Clavis EV will be only the second electric MPV in the mass-market segment, joining the BYD eMax 7 (Rs 26.90-29.90 lakh, ex-showroom). Expect prices to be similar to the Creta Electric.

New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

Mid July

New 2 Series gets a thoroughly updated exterior and interior design.

Globally revealed in October 2024, the new 2 Series Gran Coupe looks sportier in its demeanour and has been re-engineered to be more dynamic. The new design lends the car plenty of individual character – the nose is sharper and more compact, the wheel arches have been fleshed out to make way for larger and wider wheels, and at the rear, new angled tail-light clusters add freshness. On the inside, the look-and-feel is now in line with other sedans in BMW’s range, and the new curved display with BMW’s latest software is one of the highlights. BMW hasn’t revealed technical details of the India-spec 2 Series Gran Coupe yet, but it is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine driving the front wheels. We expect prices to range between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 47 lakh (ex-showroom).

MG M9

July-end

M9 stretches the tap to 5.2 metres in length.

A little higher up in the MPV spectrum, MG will launch the all-new M9 electric MPV. The MG M9 was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, and it is expected to be positioned as an electric alternative to the Kia Carnival, which means pricing is expected to be in the range of Rs 65-70 lakh (ex-showroom). The biggest talking point is its sumptuously appointed second-row captain seats, which not only get heating, ventilation and powered adjustments but also feature a massage function and a powered ottoman. Other highlights include a JBL sound system, 64-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, a Level 2 ADAS suite and a large 12.23-inch infotainment screen. Under the skin, the M9 will come with a 90kWh battery powering a 245hp/350Nm front axle-mounted motor. While no certified range figures are available yet, MG claims 548km on a single charge, based on internal testing. Large, slab-sided, and with quirky details, the M9 surely isn’t lacking in road presence.

Mahindra XUV 3XO new update

Early July

XUV 3XO is expected to get new trims and features.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO will also receive an update this month, as already teased by the brand. Details are scarce at the moment, but the update will likely bring in new trims with a rejigged equipment list. No mechanical or cosmetic updates are expected.
