In addition to aesthetic upgrades in the cabin, the compact SUV gets a slight price bump too.

With two new entrants launched just this year, the competition in the compact SUV segment sure seems to be heating up. After Ford having recently updated its EcoSport with a slew of changes, it is now Tata’s turn to give its own offering a mild upgrade. The Nexon now gets a minor aesthetic makeover and an increase in price of approximately Rs 11,000 across the board. Nexon prices now span from Rs 6.58 lakh for the base petrol-manual to Rs 11.00 lakh for the top-end diesel-automatic.

A quick check with our dealer sources reveals that all variants – except the base XE – benefit from the upgrade. The lower XM and XMA variants get stylistic improvements for the non-touchscreen infotainment unit, an increased antenna length, a grey dashboard mid-pad, a colour change for gear knob and central console from silver to piano black and a change in the material finish of the AC control panel from matte to glossy black.

The mid-spec XT and XZ gain all the above features, along with few more, as do the range-topping XZ+ and XZA+ variants. All four trims now get a new design for the roof rails and the provision of rear air-con vents (as opposed to the relatively simple, rear air blower units on the previous models) whose air flow can be controlled from the front console.

Exclusive additions to the XZ+ and XZA+ are a piano black door trim applique and a 12V power outlet for the rear seats. An interesting point to note is that the rear power outlet, which has now been re-introduced, had been (disappointingly) discontinued on the model at an earlier instance.

There are no mechanical changes under the hood. As such, the Nexon continues to be powered either a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor or a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine, both capable of putting out 110hp. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or an AMT auto gearbox on both the engines. The Tata offering finds competition in the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
