The global debut of the next-gen Suzuki S-Cross is right around the corner, slated for November 25. Numerous spy shots have already surfaced on the internet giving us a clear look at the upcoming SUV. The new S-Cross will boast a completely new design inside out, along with updated underpinnings. So here are five key things that you should be knowing about the upcoming Suzuki S-Cross.

1. Much bigger and more SUV-ish than its predecessor

Even though the specific dimensions of the new S-Cross have not been revealed yet, just a glance at the spy pictures is enough to suggest that the new S-Cross will be considerably larger than its predecessor. It appears wider, taller and more upright than the outgoing S-Cross, and while the latter was more like a crossover, the new S-Cross is certainly more SUV-ish with a boxier silhouette. In typical SUV fashion, it gets black body cladding on all sides and over the wheel arches. It also gets silver skid plates on the bumpers.

2. Completely refreshed exterior design

The design of the next-gen S-Cross is a full departure from the outgoing model. It gets a completely new front end with a much larger grille with honeycomb-like pattern. The grille is flanked by sleek and stylish headlamps on either side with tri-beam LED elements, joined by a thick chrome strip running through the grille with the Suzuki logo in the centre. The front bumper features a completely new design for the fog lamps and its surrounds, and is well sculpted as well. The overall frontal styling of the S-Cross resembles the XL6 in some aspects and gives it a family look.

In profile, the new S-Cross gets beefier cladding and rides on stylish new dual 5-spoke alloy wheels. The window line gently slopes upwards and even gets a chrome garnish. At the rear, the S-Cross gets new wraparound tail lamps that are connected by a black strip, an integrated roof spoiler and an upright boot.

3. New interiors, more tech and ADAS expected

So far, the spy shots have only previewed the exterior design of the next-gen S-Cross, and we are yet to get a glimpse of the interior. That said, just like the exterior, the interior of the new S-Cross is expected to be completely revised with a new design, new materials and more features. Some of the updated features could include a larger infotainment screen, wireless phone connectivity and connected car tech.

The spy shots also reveal that the new S-Cross will come with ADAS sensors on its bumpers, which means it could get features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, lane keep assist and more. In fact, the outgoing S-Cross was already offered with a few ADAS features, such as AEB and adaptive cruise control in European markets.

4. Platform and powertrain options

Technical details of the new-gen S-Cross are still scarce. However, unconfirmed reports suggest that it will continue with an updated version of the Global C platform, the same one that underpins the current-gen model.

As for its engine options, globally, the new S-Cross will likely continue to be powered by the 1.4-litre turbocharged BoosterJet petrol with 48V mild-hybrid technology. In some European markets, the S-Cross is even offered with Suzuki’s AllGrip Select 4-wheel Drive system. In markets like India, the S-Cross is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 12V mild-hybrid technology and that, too, is expected to be carried forward unchanged.

5. Will it come to India?

Following its global debut on November 25, the new Suzuki S-Cross will first go on sale in the European markets. As of now, there’s no official word on if and when the next-gen S-Cross could be slated for our shores. However, given the fact that the current S-Cross in India has completely been swallowed by its more contemporary and premium rivals, the Suzuki S-Cross could be on cards for India for a 2022-'23 launch.
