The fifth-gen Honda City will go on sale in India in April 2020. The carmaker has postponed the India unveil and media drive of the new City that was slated to take place in the coming week on account of the COVID-19 Coronavirus scare. However, an image of the India-spec new Honda City has now surfaced online and suggests the car will get certain country-specific changes for our market. The new India-spec City, as seen in the picture, gets a unique alloy wheel design and also beige interiors.

The new City is wider than its predecessor but sits on the same 2,600mm wheelbase. Under the hood, the new City for India will start its innings with a 1.5-litre BS6-compliant petrol engine. Additionally, the 1.5-litre BS6 diesel will be on offer as well though deliveries for the diesel could commence a little later.  Sources tell us that a 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine will also be added in future.  Honda will introduce the new City petrol in three variants and two gearbox choices, a five -speed manual and a CVT.  The City diesel will come with a manual and will also get the option of a  CVT gearbox for the first time.

The Honda City will be up against a refreshed field of mid-sized sedans. The Hyundai Verna is set to get a siginificant update while the Maruti Ciaz is now a petrol-only model. Volkswagen's Vento and Skoda's Rapid will also become petrol-only models but will be of interest for their new 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI engine.

Expect more details on the new Honda City to surface in the coming days.
