Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it sold 13,786 units over 2019, maintaining its position as the bestselling luxury carmaker in India. However, 2019 sales figure marks a 9.9 percent decrease over 2018’s record sales of 15,538 units; and is also lower than the 15,330 units the German luxury brand retailed in 2017.

Interestingly, Mercedes-Benz India achieved its highest ever Q4 sales in 2019 selling 3871 units, a 3.3 percent growth over the corresponding period last year and a 15.41 percent increase over sales Q3 2019. The uptick could be attributed to a significant increase in sales during the festive season and the launch of three new models during the period – the Mercedes-Benz G 350d, V-class Elite and the GLC facelift.

During the year, the E-class sedan was the brand’s highest-selling model, while aspirational and range-topping models like cars from its AMG performance sub-brand posted a 54 percent year-on-year growth. The C-class sedan and CLA were also among the better-selling sedans, though SUVs like the (pre-facelift) GLC, the GLA and the (previous-gen) GLE also helped push sales. The company has also confirmed that its entire range of cars and SUVs is now BS6-compliant, well ahead of the April 2020 deadline.

For 2020, Mercedes-Benz has drawn-out plans to introduce key new models in India. The carmaker has confirmed that prices for the next-gen GLE will be announced on January 28, 2020. It also said that it will introduce the next-generation CLA, GLA and GLS during the second half of the year. In addition, the GLE Coupé and the AMG four-door GT are also expected to arrive at Mercedes showrooms near you during the year.

Mercedes’ sales for 2019 affirm BMW India’s position as India’s second best-selling luxury carmaker. Audi, Jaguar Land Rover, Lexus and Volvo will also reveal their respective sales figures in the days to come. Stay tuned.
