The Bolero is one of Mahindra’s best-selling models of all time and the company has consistently been refreshing it with small updates over the two decades of it being on sale. The last facelift on the Bolero was rolled out last March, when it was also upgraded to comply with the BS6 emission norms. Now, Mahindra is working on yet another update, which is expected to launch this month.

  • Minor exterior cosmetic changes expected
  • Safety update will be in the form of a new passenger airbag
  • To remain mechanically unchanged

2022 Mahindra Bolero: what will be new?

We do not expect any significant changes to the Bolero in terms of its design, although it could be updated with dual-tone paint as well as new single-tone paint options. As per sources, a new red paint shade with contrasting dual-tone treatment could be on the cards for the Bolero. The Bolero is currently available in just three monotone colour options – white, silver and brown – and the introduction of dual-tone colour schemes will give it a fresh lease of life.

The bigger update, however, will be on the inside. The Bolero is currently available with a sole driver side airbag. As previously reported, the government had mandated fitting dual airbags on all new cars as standard from April – a ruling already in force – and existing vehicles on sale would require to be equipped with dual airbags from January 2022.

The Bolero will, thus, have to be fitted with a passenger side airbag, which could result in tweaks to the dashboard. Currently, the Bolero gets a chunky grab handle on the passenger side of the dashboard, which leaves no room for an airbag, and, hence, will be revised to accommodate a passenger airbag. The last time the Bolero was updated with a driver side airbag, it got an entirely new steering wheel from the now-discontinued TUV300.

2022 Mahindra Bolero: features

Apart from the addition of a passenger side airbag, we do not expect any changes to the equipment list. That means it will continue with features such as a Bluetooth-enabled music system with AUX and USB connectivity, manual air-conditioning, keyless entry, power steering and a semi-digital instrument cluster.

Safety features on board include a driver-side airbag, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and speed alert as standard across the range. It’s worth noting that the Bolero also complies with pedestrian safety norms in India, being the only vehicle with metal bumpers to do so.

2022 Mahindra Bolero: engine and gearbox details

Mechanically, the Bolero will carry over the same 75hp, 210Nm, 1.5-litre, three- cylinder diesel mHawk75 engine,  which comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox sending power to the rear wheels only. The Bolero does not get a four-wheel drive variant.

2022 Mahindra Bolero: expected launch and price

Mahindra is expected to introduce the new Bolero sometime this month with an expected bump in prices due to the dual-tone colour schemes and a passenger airbag. Prices for the Bolero currently range between Rs 8.71 lakh-9.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Bolero does not have any direct rival in the Indian market.
