Mahindra aims to deliver 14,000 units of XUV700 by mid-January 2022

Deliveries for petrol variants commence on October 30, while diesel versions to be delivered from November end.

The Mahindra XUV700 has seen strong demand, ever since bookings were opened on October 7. Though Mahindra had already revealed that deliveries for the petrol version will commence on October 30, with diesel variants set to reach customers almost a month later, the company has now announced that it is planning to deliver 14,000 units of the SUV by mid-January next year. However, it has also stated that deliveries could be delayed, subject to availability of semiconductors.

Mahindra XUV700: demand and supply

The complete pricing of the XUV700 was revealed on September 30. The home-grown automaker received 50,000 bookings for the SUV in just two days after opening the order books, with cumulative figures crossing 65,000 units within two weeks. The booking numbers would have surely swelled since.

With Mahindra targeting average deliveries of 5,600 units each month, come January, over 50,000 customers will still be waiting for their keys to the new model. As such, unprecedented demand, coupled with the industry-wide chip crisis, have seen waiting periods for the new SUV creep up to almost a year.

Mahindra XUV700: variants, engine-gearbox details

The XUV700 is available in two product lines – the entry-level MX and the higher AdrenoX (AX) series. The latter is further split into three trim levels – AX3, AX5 and AX7. Depending on the variant and powertrain, the XUV700 can be had in a 5- or a 7-seat layout. Mahindra also offers a ‘Luxury Pack’ on the range topping AX7 trim, that adds numerous features like a Sony 3D surround sound system, 360-degree camera, electrically deployable door handles, blind spot monitor, wireless phone charger and an electronic parking brake for an additional Rs 1.8 lakh.

Powering Mahindra’s flagship product is either a 200hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel mill that puts out 155hp in the MX version and a stronger 185hp in the AX variants. Both engines get a 6-speed manual gearbox for the entry-level MX, but are offered with an optional 6-speed automatic in the AX series. Notably, the diesel-automatic combo also boasts of an optional AWD setup with the top-spec AX7 trim.

Mahindra XUV700: price and rivals

With additional variants being announced since launch, and the introductory price only available for the first 25,000 buyers, the Mahindra XUV700 is currently priced at Rs 12.49-22.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

In its 5-seat avatar, the XUV700 sees competition from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, in addition to the Tata Harrier and MG Hector. Meanwhile, the 7-seat version rivals the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus.
