Hyundai has begun testing the mid-cycle update of its popular Verna sedan. The first set of spy shots have surfaced from China showing the new model being tested under heavy camouflage.

So far, not much has been revealed of what the refreshed Verna would look like but we can confirm that the model will come to India in the second half of 2020. A while ago, we had reported that Hyundai had already begun work on the Verna facelift for the Indian market. According to our sources, the updated sedan will have more extensive sheet metal changes than what is usually expected from a mid-cycle update. Expect a new bonnet, new fenders and possibly a new boot lid as well. The interiors too will be revamped with fresh instrumentation and the next-gen infotainment system that incorporates advanced telematics.

The Verna facelift will offer two new engine options – a new 1.5-litre diesel good for around 115hp and 250Nm, and a 1.5-litre petrol that will be packaged to take a 48V hybrid system to be future-ready for 2023 and beyond when the emission norms are likely to get stricter. The engines will first make their debut on the new Kia SP2 SUV in India and will see duty in more Hyundai and Kia models later.
