Ducati Multistrada V4 Expert Review

The Ducati Multistrada V4 continues the brand's sporty adventure touring design while becoming more practical than before. Although it no longer uses Ducati's traditional desmodromic valve system, the new V4 engine is lighter, more compact and helps reduce maintenance costs with longer service intervals. The overall fit and finish are of a high standard, but some plastic panels do not feel as premium as expected for a motorcycle in this price range. The manually adjustable windscreen also feels slightly flimsy, and a keyless fuel filler cap would have been a useful addition on a bike with keyless ignition.

Comfort is one of the Multistrada V4's biggest strengths. The upright riding position, spacious seat and relaxed ergonomics make it well suited for long-distance touring. The windscreen provides good wind protection, while the riding position helps reduce fatigue on extended journeys. The V4 S variant's semi-active Skyhook suspension further improves comfort by adapting to different road conditions, allowing the motorcycle to remain comfortable on rough roads while also feeling composed during spirited riding.

The new 1,158cc Granturismo V4 engine is the highlight of the motorcycle. It revs quickly, delivers smooth and strong power throughout the rev range, and sounds distinctive without being overwhelming. Compared to the previous V-twin engine, it is more refined while also offering better performance. The simpler valve system extends the valve clearance inspection interval from 30,000km to 60,000km, reducing maintenance requirements. The engine combines effortless highway cruising with exciting acceleration whenever needed. 

Despite being a large adventure motorcycle, the Multistrada V4 is surprisingly easy to ride. The different riding modes adjust the engine's power delivery and electronic aids to suit various riding conditions. The V4 S's semi-active suspension can switch from a soft setup for broken roads to a firmer setup for fast cornering, making it extremely versatile. The bike remains stable, confidence-inspiring and entertaining whether touring, riding through city roads or enjoying twisty mountain roads.

The Multistrada V4 comes with one of the most advanced electronics packages in its class. It offers four riding modes, traction control, wheelie control and adjustable power settings. The standout features are the adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection system, both of which work well even in Indian riding conditions and significantly improve rider convenience and safety during long journeys. 

The Multistrada V4 is an expensive motorcycle, but Autocar India believes it justifies its price with its outstanding engine, advanced electronics and excellent touring ability. Minor issues such as the quality of some plastic parts and the windscreen mechanism do little to affect the overall experience. The review concludes that the Multistrada V4 is one of the finest adventure touring motorcycles available, combining comfort, performance and technology in a package that is difficult to match.
