BMW CE 02 Expert Review

The BMW CE 02 stands out with its bold and unconventional styling. Neither a traditional motorcycle nor a scooter, BMW describes it as an "e-parkourer," and its futuristic design certainly grabs attention. With minimal bodywork, a low stance and distinctive proportions, it turns heads wherever it goes. Build quality is excellent throughout, giving the CE 02 the premium feel expected from a BMW. However, the rider footpegs appear slightly out of place in the overall design, and the low-mounted tail-light could be more visible to following traffic.

The low seat height and light weight make the CE 02 easy to ride, especially for beginners and city commuters. The upright riding posture and wide handlebar provide good control in traffic. However, the thin bench-style seat lacks cushioning and becomes uncomfortable on longer rides. Practicality is also limited, as there is no storage space and carrying a pillion or the charger can be inconvenient.
 

The CE 02 delivers quick acceleration and plenty of torque, making it an enjoyable companion for urban riding. It offers multiple riding modes, allowing riders to choose between smoother or more responsive throttle characteristics depending on the situation. Regenerative braking is well integrated, while the claimed riding range proves realistic for everyday commuting. The optional fast charger also significantly reduces charging time.

One of the CE 02's biggest strengths is its light weight and low centre of gravity, making it highly agile and easy to manoeuvre through city traffic. The suspension offers a comfortable ride on smoother roads but struggles over larger potholes and sharp bumps. The Michelin tyres provide dependable grip, while the brakes offer good feel. However, the absence of dual-channel ABS means the rear wheel can lock during aggressive braking.

The CE 02 comes equipped with LED lighting, a TFT display, keyless start, Bluetooth connectivity, adjustable levers, reverse assist and multiple riding modes. The optional Highline package further enhances the experience with features such as a fast charger, heated grips and an additional riding mode, making it a worthwhile upgrade.

The BMW CE 02 is not designed for practicality but instead focuses on delivering a unique urban riding experience. Its quirky styling, premium build quality and lively performance make it an appealing choice for buyers who value individuality and the BMW badge. While its comfort, practicality and premium positioning limit its appeal, it remains a fun and distinctive electric commuter.
