Norton trademarks Electra name in India

Norton Motorcycles has registered the ‘Electra’ name in India, as per a recent trademark filing. This move follows the earlier trademarking of the ‘Combat’ name, indicating that Norton is potentially securing model names ahead of its next wave of launches.

  1. Norton has also trademarked 'Combat' name
  2. New Norton products expected to launch this year

What could the Electra be?

While the company hasn’t released any details about what the Electra name might be applied to, the filing suggests that Norton is ramping up product planning under TVS ownership. TVS revealed sometime last year that Norton is set to launch 6 new motorcycles over the next 3 years.

Additionally, Norton is expected to introduce multiple new motorcycles in 2025 that will be based on updated platforms and engines that meet modern regulations. Whether Electra or Combat will be among the first of these new offerings remains to be seen.

While Norton has not revealed any details about the model this name might be applied to, the Electra name has historical connotations in the motorcycling world, most notably with Royal Enfield, which used it for a long-running variant of the Bullet. It remains to be seen whether Norton will use this name for a new internal combustion motorcycle, a special edition, or something entirely different. At this point, there's no indication that this trademark is connected to an electric motorcycle, and any such assumptions would be speculative.
