According to TMCBlog.com, an Indonesian auto website, TVS has registered a design patent for a new electric scooter in that market. While there is no clarity yet on whether this model will also be sold in India, we have previously reported that the company is working on an entry-level EV, which will sit below the popular iQube and is slated to be launched later in the year.

  1. TVS iQube is one of India’s bestselling electric scooters
  2. Has a unique design, big wheels and swingarm-mounted motor

TVS registers patent for new electric scooter

This scooter has a unique design and bigger wheels than the iQube

The design patent that TVS has filed shows an electric scooter with a very different design than the iQube. And we can confirm that it is an e-scooter, not an ICE-powered one, because there’s no exhaust muffler visible. Just like the iQube, this new TVS EV has a rather boxy design language, although it has its own look. The headlight is mounted on the handlebar shroud; there is a small visor atop it. And just like the latest Jupiter 110, it has a DRL bar both at the front and rear, which presumably integrates the indicators into it as well.

Another rather telling difference to the iQube appears to be in wheel sizes. As can be seen from the image above, the front wheel appears to be a tad bigger than the rear. As of now, wheel sizes are under wraps, but since most scooters sold in Southeast Asian markets usually have 14-inch wheels (or sometimes even bigger ones), this TVS EV could have a 14-inch front, too. The decision to go with a smaller rear wheel may be taken to keep the seat height low and, more importantly, the underseat storage area as generously sized as possible.

While this particular TVS EV does use twin shock absorbers like the iQube, it doesn’t use a hub-mounted motor. Instead, it appears to use a swingarm-mounted unit, just like the iQube’s arch rivals, the Bajaj Chetak and Ather Rizta.

It remains to be seen if this particular offering ends up coming to our market and whether it is actually the low-cost EV that TVS is working on. However, given the large wheels and swingarm motor, this is unlikely to be that e-scooter. Stay tuned to our website for all the latest news on this topic.
