India’s ever popular home-grown sportsbike series, the Pulsars are on the verge of receiving a brand new 200cc variant. Based on the proven Pulsar 200NS platform, the latest Pulsar is about to dress up in its latest faired-in avatar, to roll in with a racy new look.

The macho new Pulsar 200 spied here is close to production ready, as can be seen from these images of the bike testing on National Highway 4, outside Kolhapur. We expect the new P200 to launch shortly, within the coming few weeks.

The new Bajaj Pulsar 200 will be a fully faired and compact sportsbike, with clip-on handlebars, a compact cockpit, with comprehensive, well laid out instruments. Bajaj-typical, crisp working and good quality switchgear can be taken for granted. The new Pulsar 200 is going to be a purposeful, mean-looking sportsbike as seen from its muscular tank and tastefully sculpted body cowls, as well as sporty split seats.

This upcoming Pulsar will share similar specs to the existing 200NS, deploying a retuned version of the NS’s four-stroke, single-cylinder engine, with maximum power output close to 23.5bhp, and peak torque in the region of 1.86kgm. Expect ample technology as part of this new package, including liquid-cooling, a four-valve head and six-speed, close-ratio gearbox apart from other goodies. Final drive will be via an exposed drive chain, and the new Pulsar 200 will show off a compact, sporty exhaust system. Having experienced the willing 200NS engine, we expect the new 200 shall offer a refined, rev happy powerplant that delivers blistering acceleration and strong performance.

The sporty new Pulsar 200 will use smart alloy wheels and standard telescopic forks as front suspension, while a monoshock will do duty behind. The new 200 should deploy a steel perimeter frame. Single, drilled disc brakes will stop the upcoming new Bajaj.

Even with the finer print still under wraps, you can expect the sporty new Pulsar 200 to offer good value-for-money, in trademark Bajaj fashion, making for a stylish, affordable Indian sportsbike. The new Pulsar 200 shall take on rivals from Hero MotoCorp, including the inbound Karizmas, Honda’s 150 and 250 CBR bikes and Yamaha’s YZF-R15 V 2.0, offering biking enthusiasts here a potent new level of style, with zippy performance the Pulsar 200NS is already renowned for.
