The new 2017 iterations of the KTM 125 and 390 Duke have really garnered a lot of attention around the world wherever they've been launched thanks to their heady mix of performance and design. However, KTM Europe has just issued a recall for these bikes to fix a problem which had cropped up with their radically designed new LED headlights.
It was reported that the headlight would randomly restart, which had the potential of causing a dangerous riding situation, especially if it happened at night. However, the fix for this problem is quite simple and just requires a small software update. The recalled bikes are receiving this software update free of charge at KTM dealerships in Europe. KTM Europe also advised their customers to contact their nearest dealership if they had faced such an issue or even check the KTM online service website if their bike was one of those affected.
Even in India there have been some reports that the newly launched 390 Duke has been facing a similar problem with the LED headlight sporadically rebooting and even the new full-colour TFT instrument display restarting on a whim. Upon reaching out to KTM India regarding this issue and the European recall situation, we were assured that this software glitch was only found in the first lot of new 390s which rolled out from Chakan and that nearly all the affected bikes in India have received the software update.
The company added that any 390 Dukes which missed this software update for any reason could be brought in to any of the KTM dealerships around the country to receive the patch. Alternatively, owners could get in touch with KTM India over email in order to address any such issues they were facing.
