Extensive testing across Europe before global debut

Honda has released new images and video of the EV FUN Concept undergoing real-world testing in Europe, marking the latest stage in the development of its first full-sized electric motorcycle.

The EV FUN Concept was first unveiled at EICMA 2024 in Milan as a full-sized EV, with performance equivalent to a 500cc petrol motorcycle. It features a fixed battery pack and CCS2 automobile-grade quick charging.

Earlier this year, Honda teased a camouflaged test mule that hinted at production intent. The teaser showcased its TFT dash, horizontal LED DRL, single-sided swingarm, and 17-inch wheels shod with 150-section Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tyres. It also revealed the distinct motor whine, confirming the bike’s EV credentials.

Development is being overseen by Masatsugu Tanaka, who appears as the rider in the official video. Tanaka has spent over two decades at Honda, fine-tuning iconic models such as the CBR600RR, CBR1000RR Fireblade, Gold Wing, VFR1200F, Africa Twin and NT1100. Since 2022, he has led dynamic testing within Honda’s electrification division, applying ICE motorcycle know-how to the EV space.

Explaining the project’s philosophy, Tanaka said: “We developed Honda’s first electric FUN model under the key concept of ‘Be the Wind’. It offers a quiet and smooth ride unique to EV models and a sense of unity with the machine that can make riders feel like the wind.”

While Honda has already launched the E-VO in China in partnership with Wuyang, the EV FUN Concept is its first independently developed full-sized electric motorcycle. For now, the bike remains in the testing phase in Europe, and while global plans are being readied, an India launch looks unlikely in the near future, with the company currently prioritising its electric scooter line-up for the domestic market.
