Ducati had announced its plans to launch five new models – the Multistrada 950, the Monster 797, SuperSport, Scrambler Desert Sled and Scrambler Café Racer – in India this year. While the models will be launched in June and July, we tell you how they will be priced.
Headlining this new line-up, and also the most expensive bike here, is going to be the new SuperSport. The Ducati SuperSport is essentially the Monster with a fairing, powered by a 937cc, twin-cylinder engine making 113hp. It will be priced at Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the standard bike, while the more tricked-out SuperSport S will cost about Rs 1.5 lakh more.
The new entry-level, smaller-engined Ducati Multistrada 950 isn’t as sophisticated as its larger sibling, the 1200, but is an extremely capable machine in its own right. More importantly, the lack of some cutting-edge electronics, suspension and smaller motor has allowed Ducati to price it at Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) – nearly Rs 3 lakh cheaper than the Multistrada 1200. This will help it compete directly with the extremely popular Triumph Tiger 800 series, and we’re sure that'll get adventure-touring enthusiasts very excited.
The two new variants of the Scrambler – the Desert Sled and Café Racer – will cost Rs 9.33 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This means these models will be Rs 2.5 lakh dearer than the entry-level Scrambler Icon, but they do offer a lot more. The Ducati Scrambler Café Racer is a throwback to the high-performance street bikes that gained popularity in the '60s and '70s and should be perfect for stylish urban riding. The Desert Sled, on the other hand, is another beast altogether. It’s focused on off-road riding and has higher ground clearance, bash plates, a long travel suspension and even taller handlebars. It’s the Scrambler that lives up to the name better than the others.
The most affordable bike in this list is the Monster 797, priced at Rs 8.07 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) which makes it a couple of lakhs cheaper than the Monster 821. The is the new entry-level bike in the Monster range and is powered by the 803cc L-twin motor from the Scrambler range that's good for 75hp of peak power and 68.9Nm of torque.
