With World Ducati Week 2016 just wrapped up, the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli and the city of Bologna had a chance to witness not just the largest gathering of Ducati motorcycles and Ducatisti, but also a couple of very interesting new bikes from the Italian marque.

1299 Panigale S Anniversario

The first of these bikes to be unveiled was the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario – a limited-edition version of the track monster developed to celebrate the company’s 90th anniversary. To set itself apart from the regular Panigale S, this edition gets a special red, white and black paint scheme that takes inspiration from Ducati’s race bikes, and also gets gold wheel rims. But the bling is not limited to the wheels, with the bike’s clutch cover, cylinder head covers and oil pan cast in a golden-coloured magnesium alloy. The gold finish can be found on the special Akrapovic exhausts as well. Apart from these colour changes, the Panigale 1299’s beautiful lines are retained along with the gorgeous LED headlights and the high-tech TFT panel instrument cluster.

The 1285cc Superquadro L-twin motor is untouched and still produces a mind-bending 205hp of peak power and 144.6Nm of torque. The big change, however, has been to the electronics package. The Anniversario gets the EVO versions of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), which features an all-new algorithm that allows for faster intervention and a more precise interface with the Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) responsible for the incredible cornering prowess of the 1299 Panigale. And while there is absolutely no difference in the aluminium monocoque chassis, the limited-edition machine is about 2.5kg lighter than the standard Panigale thanks to a super-light lithium-ion battery as well as the carbonfibre heel guards and tyre hugger. The 1299 Panigale S Anniversario was unveiled by former MotoGP World Champion and Ducati test rider Casey Stoner, and Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, who announced that only 500 examples of this limited-edition bike will be made.

Ducati Supersport S

Now this wasn’t an official unveil, but more of a ‘behind-closed-doors’ sort of sneak peek for a few enthusiasts. Even though this preview was a strictly managed affair with no cameras or phones allowed, one secretly snapped picture of the bike has been doing the rounds of the internet and gives us a bit of insight as to what this bike is all about. This new bike’s name harks back to the original Supersport from the early 70s and there hasn’t been a Ducati bearing the same name for almost a decade now. From the photo it’s clear that the new Supersport S takes inspiration from the Panigale in terms of design, but seems to be a more road-friendly bike underneath. It gets a trellis frame that looks like it came from the Monster 1200, and gets a single-sided swingarm as well as an Ohlins suspension. While there is no official word on what motor will power this new motorcycle, there are rumours that it will be based on the 973cc L-twin from the current Hypermotard 939. The spy pic also reveals that this bike will get Brembo calipers, but seem to be lower spec compared to the ones on the Panigale. While the Supersport S is seen here with clip-on handlebars and a single-seat configuration, the tallish nature of the clip-ons and flatness of the seat seem to indicate that this bike is distinctly less track-focused and is instead deigned to be at home on the road. Of course, we’ll get to know more when the Ducati Supersport S is officially unveiled at the upcoming Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA) towards the end of this year.
