Mahindra Two Wheelers has announced that its premium commuter segment offering, the Centuro, has received over 10,000 bookings within three weeks of launch.

The Centuro was launched on July 1 at a price of Rs 45,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and has been positioned against rival offerings like Hero’s Passion series, Bajaj’s Discover 100T and Honda’s new Dream Yuga. The bike comes powered with the same 106.77cc engine as in the Pantero and makes 8.4bhp and 0.86kgm of torque.

It also offers a host of features including a multifunction flip-to-open key with 96-bit encryption that makes it impossible to start the bike with a duplicate, a distance-to-empty readout and a pass-light flasher, among other things. This is something that should stand the bike maker in good stead in this segment where value for money is very important for buyers.

The Centuro was also being offered at an introductory price of Rs 44,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the first 10,000 bikes.

It remains to be seen whether the initial hype for the bike lasts and this new offering from Mahindra is able to give stiff competition to its rivals.
