Monthly sales figures for the top manufacturers in the Indian two-wheeler industry for May 2023 have been revealed and here’s how each manufacturer fared.

    Hero MotoCorp: 4,89,336 units

Hero continues to lead the way in May 2023, with a 26.7 percent increase over its April 2023 sales figure, which stood at 3,86,184 units. Even when compared to its figure for May 2022 (4,52,246 units), Hero MotoCorp reported an increase of 8.2 percent. The company managed to export 11,165 units in the past month. Hero has recently updated the HF Deluxe as well as the Xpulse 200 4V and has a lot of new models in the pipeline.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI): 3,11,144 units

Compared to sales of 3,38,289 units that HMSI recorded in April 2023, the company reported a decline of 8 percent. Stacked against its own sales numbers in May of last year (3,20,844 units), Honda reported a small decline of three percent. Honda recently announced a special price for its new Shine 100 and you can read more here. Its popular Dio scooter is also going to get the H-Smart technology soon – as we reported earlier – and you can read more about that here.

    TVS Motor Company: 2,52,690 units

Hosur-based TVS reported an increase of 8.4 percent in May, compared to the sales figures for April 2023 (2,32,956 units). TVS also bettered its numbers for May of last year, when it recorded sales of 1,91,482 units, by 31.9 percent. The company is also working on a camera-based helmet detector for its bikes and scooters. In May 2023, TVS exported 76,607 units.

The numbers mentioned above do not include sales figures for the iQube electric scooter.

    Bajaj Auto: 1,94,811 units

Bajaj has bettered its May sales numbers by 7.1 percent, compared to April 2023 (1,81,828 units). When compared to its sales numbers for May 2022 (96,102 units), the Chakan-based manufacturer reported a massive increase of 102.7 percent. Bajaj was able to export 1,12,885 units in May 2023.

It is to be mentioned here that Bajaj Auto has shared its sales figures including the numbers for Chetak Technology Limited as well. The company doesn’t provide a break-up between the two.

    Royal Enfield: 70,795 units

Royal Enfield reported an increase of 2.8 percent, compared to its April 2023 sales numbers (68,881 units). It also bettered its sales numbers when compared to May of last year (53,525 units) by 32.3 percent. In the month of May 2023, RE exported 6,666 bikes.

We already know that there’s a litany of new bikes coming from RE and we have recently gotten a clearer look at the Himalayan 450’s dash as well as the upcoming 450cc roadster.

    Suzuki: 61,442 units

Suzuki hasn’t revealed its sales numbers for May 2023. The numbers you see here are from FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations), which shows retail registrations and not wholesale dispatches, as is the case with the numbers for the other companies.

While Suzuki’s May 2023 sales numbers are slightly on the lower side, it is worth mentioning here that the company was forced to halt production for a week due to a cyber attack on its plant. How many units were actually manufactured in May are currently unknown and how much of an impact this will have on the number of Suzuki vehicles registered in June 2023 remains to be seen.
