Honda Shine 100 DX vs standard model: Differences explained

Honda has launched a new, higher-spec variant of the Shine 100. It is based on the standard model but gets a few additions that set it apart.

One welcome change is the shift to tubeless tyres. The standard variant continues with tubed tyres, which can be a hassle for daily commuters, as even a single puncture can leave them stranded. With the new DX variant, Honda has transitioned to a tubeless setup for the higher variant, which should prove to be a real boon for everyday riders.

One notable difference between the standard and DX variants is the addition of an LCD dash, which appears to be shared with the Shine 125. However, it does miss out on a gear position indicator – a feature available on the latter. That said, the LCD unit still conveys a fair bit of useful information, including real-time mileage, distance-to-empty, and a service due indicator. Also new is the inclusion of a side-stand engine cut-off function, enhancing rider safety.

Visually, the DX gets subtle cosmetic updates to set it apart from the standard Shine 100. These include a chrome garnish on the headlamp, a chrome muffler cover, and blacked-out finishes on the engine and grab rail.

The DX features a 10-litre tank, up from 9 litres on the Standard model

Right off the bat, the increase in tank size may not be visually apparent. However, Honda says it has widened the tank, which has resulted in an additional litre of capacity, taking the total to 10 litres. Honda claims that this change has been made in response to customer feedback.

Honda Shine 100 DX vs standard model: Weight

The Shine 100 is 4kg lighter

With the switch to a slightly larger fuel tank, the DX variant has gained 4kg in the process. The Shine 100 weighs 99kg, while the DX variant tips the scales at 103kg.

The DX model is available in four colours – black, red, blue and grey. It also gets refreshed graphics that further differentiate it from the standard Shine 100. The Shine 100, on the other hand, comes in five colour options – red, blue, grey, green and orange – all paired with a contrasting black base.

The Shine 100 DX is priced at Rs 74,959, which is Rs 6,000 more than the base Shine 100 (Rs 68,862). At its current price, the Shine 100 DX is priced closer to the Hero Splendor models.
